The hospital's surgeon, Dr Phuljit Patowary, speaking in the city over the weekend during the launch of the new service, said: "We had a successful surgery last Saturday where one patient was operated in an exercise that lasted for an hour."

 

He pointed out that people who hitherto receive the services from abroad would now be treated in the country and save costs. "President John Magufuli has indicated several times that there are some treatments which should be made locally and we are working on his vision," explained the surgeon.

 

Dr Patowary explained further that doctors at the hospital will be working with their counterparts from HCG Hospital in Ahmadabad in India to perform the surgeries.

 

The Chairman of Regency Hospital, Dr Rajni Kanabar, said the hospital decided to conduct knee surgeries in the country after it found out that many people required the service.

 

"The hospital in collaboration with Lions Club of Dar es Salaam conducted a number of knee clinics and found out that many people needed the treatment but they could not have it in the country," he explained.

 

The hospital then decided to partner with the Indian hospital to conduct the surgeries, he explained.
